Thoughts from Heathrow Airport

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening – depending on where you are in the world.

I write this post while sitting in “No 1”, a lounge, bedroom and spa service at Heathrow airport, in London Town. Mack The Knife by Bobby Darin is playing in the background. It kinda makes you want to get up, grab a partner and dance.

Oooo hot guy alert! A really cute handsome gentleman just sat on my left hand side. In a few hours if I’m feeling brave enough I may just strike up a conversation… On second thought he’s not that cute, well that and his lady-friend just sat next to him.

I’m not really sure why but my inner voice, the one narrating in my head as I type, is British. It sounds like Kate Winslet’s narration in The Holiday – I really love that movie.

Anyway back to this lounge business. So, if you’re wondering why on earth I’m chilling in an airport lounge, which cost £35 for three hours, and not in the main transit waiting area playing Candy Crush or checking what people are up to on Instagram, it’s because I had a 10 hour stopover in Heathrow on my back home to South Africa from the USA. And I wanted to sleep, shower, get free wifi and eat free food.

Yes, in a few hours I will be back home where the luxuries of walking down the streets of New York City or taking a boat ride to the Kennedy Compound, in Cape Cod – Massachusetts, will be oh so far away.

Oh, it was a great holiday indeed.

The reason why I haven’t written about my holiday until now is pretty simple. I write for a living and blogging everyday about what I wore, ate, saw and did would’ve felt like work and would essentially defeat the purpose of taking a break.

Okay, I’m off to get some free coffee and then jump right back into my new book Bossy Pants by Tina Fey.

Peace and love!
